PS4 Rumor Mill: Anonymous Source States 2013 Release & Disc ...

Despite the constant dispelling of rumors by Sony Computer Entertainment America, there are still those that feel adamant that the Playstation 4 will see the light of day in the next year. A recent communication between an unnamed source and the Wall Street Journal kicked up the rumor mill once more with a tip that Sony would be releasing its next generation console only a year after SCEA?s president Andrew House shot down the idea of the PS4 by stating, ?I don?t think we?re contemplating talking about anything to do with future console iterations at this point.?

After the release of the Playstation 3, Sony went on record to say that it would be implementing a 10 year lifecycle for its current console. As the Playstation 3 launched in 2006, the hardware should still have a good solid 3 years before being replaced by yet another generation of gaming. With the announcement of such anticipated titles as God of War: Ascension, it would seem like a fruitless maneuver for Sony to not release the next installment of one of the developer?s best selling series on its newest hardware, especially since it would be one of the first system launches to showcase a game so popular that it could probably aid in increasing system sales at launch.

One interesting fact stated by the WSJ?s anonymous source was that early rumors of a download-only console were far from mere fabrications. Sony?s consideration for disc-less compatibility was apparently dropped in favor of the more traditional methods due to a growing concern over the reliability of individual internet connections and the potential instability of bandwidth. If these rumors happen to be true, Sony?s change of heart may have come off the heels of its failed PSP Go system, which released in 2009 to abysmal sales that continued well into 2011.

E3 2012 is less than a week away, so many can expect to see more rumors like this popping up until Sony?s official press conference during the trade show. Only after the closing words of the conference are spoken will people know the truth and reality behind the numerous Playstation 4 rumors that have been plaguing the internet in the past year. Clearly, if there?s no mention of the system by the close of June 7th, than the constant barrage of rumors should take a much needed break as few companies would miss the opportunity to showcase their newest hardware at one of the industries? biggest events

Unfortunately, in an trade plagued by secrets just waiting to be cracked, there are bound to be those that wish to stir the pot, even if there is little to no evidence behind what they?re spewing. Seeing as how Sony has been adamantly refuting all claims to the Playstation 4 over the past year, it?s time for the PS4 rumor mill to take a much needed rest.
